Cook up something new with a different kind of book club

(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / Jan. 18, 2019) –Stillwater Public Library is introducing a new book club that focuses on making new friends and sharing tasty recipes. The “Cookbook Club” will take place next door to the library at the Prairie Arts Center’s kitchen on the second Thursday of the month from Feb. 14-May 9 at 6:30 p.m.

The club is for adventurous foodies who want to experiment with new recipes and share the results with other food obsessed individuals. The first meeting on Feb. 14 will focus on recipes by the late culinary rock star Anthony Bourdain.

“Participants can select any recipe by Anthony Bourdain that they want to try to cook,” said Lisa O’Donnell, Adult Services Librarian and co-founder of the club. “Bring your dish to share. We’ll provide plates, utensils and drinks. Then we’ll discuss and review the recipes, and of course, eat!”

The library will keep Bourdain’s cookbook “Appetites” on reserve at the adult help desk for club participants to use if they need inspiration or want to make a photocopy of a chosen recipe. Online resources will also be sent out to participants prior to the club’s first meeting.

“We know that the first meeting is on Valentine’s Day,” added O’Donnell. “We really just wanted to get the club going, and not everyone has exciting Valentine’s plans or wants to brave crowded restaurants. If you can’t attend the first meeting please go ahead and register. We’d love to have you even if you can’t come until March.”

Future cookbook themes will be selected by participants. There are also plans to utilize the kitchen space to have mini food demos and to allow club members to actively share cooking tips and tricks with each other.

Registration is required and space is limited. To register, visit the library’s website at http://library.stillwater.org, email askalibrarian@stillwater.org or call 405-372-3633 x8106.
