If you live, own property, work or attend school in Payne County, you may obtain a free Stillwater Public Library card. You will need a picture ID. Children (17 and under) need to be accompanied by parent or guardian.

How many items can I check out at one time?

You may have a total of 30 items checked out on your account (not including paperbacks or digital material). This total may include a maximum of 6 music CDs, CD-books, or DVDs each. 15 paperbacks may be checked out at one time.

How long can I check out materials?

  • Items check out for 15 days & can be renewed twice unless they are on hold for another patron or checked out on a special card.
  • Items that are on hold check out for 8 days and cannot be renewed. 
  • There is a 30 day loan period (no renewals) on items checked out on a Teacher, Homebound, or Outreach card.
  • Due dates vary on items borrowed from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan.

What are the fines for overdue materials?

An item is overdue if not returned by the due date. Fines are $.25 per item, per day.  The maximum fine for any one item is $5.00. Fines do not accumulate when the Library is closed.

How can I get reminders about books that will soon be due?

Library Elf is a service that provides email reminders when library material is due.  The service is not administered by the library, so temporary interruptions may occur.  Patrons will be responsible for all fines, even if an interruption occurs.

How do I renew material?

Materials can be renewed by logging into your account in the online catalog or calling the circulation desk at 405-372-3633x8111. Your library card number is required for all account inquiries over the phone. Library materials may be renewed two times except for the following:

items with holds, items on a teacher's card, or items obtained through Interlibrary loan which can be renewed only once for five days.

How can I place a hold/reserve on a needed item?

For items that are currently available in the library, call the Help Desk at 405-372-3633 x8106. The item will be held for you at the Check Out Desk for 3 days.

For items currently checked out, you can reserve them at the Help Desk in person or by phone, or you can place a hold online through the library catalog. Instructions for placing a hold online.

There is a limit of 15 reserves per patron. Library staff will attempt to contact patrons for three days when an item is available before removing the patrons name from the reserved list. Once contacted, reserve items will be held for three (3) days.

What can I do if the library does not own the item I want to borrow?

Items the library does not own can often be borrowed from another library through our Interlibrary Loan service. There is a limit of 3 ILL requests per week and a $2 per item mailing fee. Instructions for requesting an Interlibrary Loan.
