Get help starting a business in 2023 with a free class at the library

(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / January 18, 2023) – The Stillwater Public Library (SPL) and Meridian Technology Center (MTC) are having a “Starting Your Business” class on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Library. The free course is in-person and virtual for those who wish to join from home. Registration is required.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there was a boom in startups during the pandemic. Small Business Trends states this movement doesn’t seem to be slowing down, with statistics showing that two in five Americans are planning to start a business in 2023.

Brad Rickelman, assistant director of business and entrepreneurial services at MTC, looks forward to helping community members make that entrepreneurship leap and be one of the successful statistics.

“Having a dream and making that dream reality can be daunting and fraught with pitfalls,” Rickelman said. “But through planning and research, many difficulties can be anticipated or avoided.”

In the class, attendees will learn many aspects of starting a business, such as finding a market for your product, finances, employee hiring and more. Questions are welcome and encouraged whether attendees are currently planning to start a business or thinking about it in the future.

Rickelman will assist participants in finding the best path for them amongst the abundance of business types available and the many ways of starting them.

“Sometimes you just want to make a little money on the side or turn a hobby profitable,” Rickelman said. “Others, though, have the desire to work for themselves or fill a need in the community. Whatever the dream, we can work toward making it happen.”

Those planning to attend can submit questions ahead of time and register at library.stillwater.org/register.php. Anyone wishing to learn more or get one-on-one consulting can visit the MTC’s website at meridiantech.edu /bes and check out their business and entrepreneurial services section.
