Harbour Winn

Harbour Winn, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus of English at Oklahoma City University.

He earned a Ph.D. in English from the University of Oregon and completed all the course work at OCU for an AMS EC Credential. He teaches Psychological Bases of Learning in Childhood and has taught the language course in the past. He also presents during the spring seminar on Multiple Intelligences. He taught in a Montessori EC classroom, for 10 years and 7 years in a Montessori-oriented, self-contained third grade classroom.

He also served as the Director of the Center for Interpersonal Studies through Film and Literature at Oklahoma City University and has directed the OCU Film Institute which shows international films to the Oklahoma City Community on many Sunday afternoons throughout the academic year.

Winn was involved with the "Let's Talk About It" program as the state humanities scholar on the original committee that wrote the grant for the funding to begin the program in Oklahoma. He has been a scholar in more than 250 of these evening programs across the state of Oklahoma and developed six of the themes: “Myth and Literature,” “Survival,” “Writing Worlds: The Art of Seeing in Anthropology, Fiction, & Autobiography,” and “Generation to Generation: Contemporary Young Adult Fiction," “Do You See What I see: Growing Up in the Wide World: Contemporary World Literature,” and "Young Adult Crossover Fiction: Crumbling Borders between Adolescents and Adults.”

Winn was a scholar in three other reading and discussion Humanities programs in the state: 1) “Connections,” which provides book discussion series for newly literate adults; and 2) “Prime Time,” which provides book discussion series for elementary school students and their parents; and “Literature and Medicine,” which brings book discussion series to doctors and nurses to reflect on Humanities issues in empathy and care of patients and self.

He received the 2013 Public Humanities Award for his dedication to providing outstanding public programming across the state. ~http://www.okcu.edu
