Lloyd Musselman

lloyd musselmanLloyd K. Musselman earned his Ph.D degree in American History from the University of Denver.  He taught for six years at Lakewood, Colorado High School before coming to Oklahoma City University, where he retired after 38 years of teaching.  During those years at OCU, he was twice named Outstanding Faculty Member, served on the Faculty Senate Executive Committee for two decades, served on almost every committee in the University, and served as Acting Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as Interim Dean of Enrollment Management.

Since 1999, he has taught sections of “Politics, Economics, America and the Future,” for OCU in Singapore.

Dr. Musselman is a popular speaker throughout Oklahoma.  He still talks on American History topics to various church groups, and is a regular presenter to OLLI Life Long Learning classes, as well as the popular Let’s Talk About It series .

He has published two books and dozens of poems.

In 2007, Dr. Musselman was inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame.

On October 28th, 2016 Dr. Musselman was inducted into his Baltimore high school Hall of Fame for lifetime achievement.  Some of those who preceded him into this Hall of Fame are Gary Moore of TV, Senator Stuart Symington, columnist Russell Baker who hosted Masterpiece Theater, Congressman Elijah Cummings, and noted author Leon Uris.  (Interestingly, Uris has an asterisk by his name.  The story is that Uris never graduated because he flunked Mr. Pentz’s senior English course.  Twice!  Years later, Dr. Musselman actually passed Mr. Pentz’s course.  With a B!  Hence, when he compares his subsequent career with that of Leon Uris, Dr. Musselman sees himself as one of America’s greatest underachievers.

Dr. Musselman and his wife Nancy recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.  They have two children and four grandchildren—who remind him too often that he is not as smart as he thinks he is.
