Teen Library Materials

The Young Adult collection at Stillwater Public Library consists of fiction for grades 6-12. We have a wide variety of books, including mystery, humor, science fiction, romance, sports, horror, fantasy, and more. We also have YA audiobooks and nonfiction shelved with the Adult audiobooks and nonfiction—just look for the yellow YA spine labels!

The OK Virtual Library, which has a growing collection of downloadable e-books and audio books, features a curated Teen "collection" as well. Check out our Teen eLibrary here!

Oklahoma Sequoyah Book Award - These books are voted as best of the 2018-2019 school year by Oklahoma students. Past winners for the High School and Intermediate lists (2010-present), as well as the YA list (1996-2009) can be found here. Check out the 2019-2020 nominees for Intermediate and High School so you can vote in April 2020!

Printz Medal Michael L. Printz Award - This award honors excellence in literature written for young adults.

Edwards Award  Margaret A. Edwards Award - This award honors an author, as well as a specific body of their work, for significant and lasting contribution to young adult literature.

 Alex Awards- The Alex Awards are given annually to ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults. The 2019 winners are:

Best Fiction for Young Adults
- From 2011 to the present, this list compiles the year's best fiction books with proven or potential appeal to teens. From 1996-2010, see the Best Books for Young Adults lists.

Teens' Top Ten - This list is chosen by teens and voted in by teens. Nominations occur from Teen Read Week (2nd week of October) through the end of the year, are listed the following April, and then voted on from August until Teen Read Week. 

YALSA's Best of the Best - These lists include some of the awards above, but also list the top audiobooks, graphic novels, and more for each year (2011-present).

Outstanding Books for the College Bound - This comprehensive list provides reading recommendations to students who plan to continue their education beyond high school. This list is updated every 5 years, with the most recent list released in 2014.
