Program for retirees examines senior fitness at the Stillwater Public Library

(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / October 10, 2019) –– Seniors will learn more about fitness and active aging at the next “Making the Most of Retirement” program at the Stillwater Public Library on Oct. 16, at 1:30 p.m. Speaker Joni O’Neil, fitness supervisor at Total Health and Total Fitness Aquatics, will be on hand discussing how retirees can stay active and why it is important that they do so.

“Active aging is a multidimensional process,” O’Neil said. “It includes the physical, psychological and social aspects of life. Individuals over 40, and especially those over 60, need opportunities to engage and enrich themselves in each of these components.”

Attendees at the program will learn why exercise matters and how it impacts the aging process. O’Neil will share success stories from people who have made strides towards improving their health and lives through regular exercise and social interaction.

“Making the Most of Retirement” is a monthly program coordinated by the OSU Emeriti Association. The program addresses different topics each month pertaining to retirement and is open to all local retirees as well as those considering retirement.

At the Nov. 20 program, Blayne Mayfield from OSU will discuss “Cutting the Cord: Alternatives to Cable Television.” The series takes a break in December for the holidays and returns on Jan. 15 with an “Armchair Traveler” session at which Larry Hoberock will take attendees “Sailing Among the British Virgin Islands.”
